This is (still) Under Construction
I haven’t really gotten around to updating this section of my blog but as I see that there are many people coming it to see what I have written on this section I figure that I really should get some information posted for you. First, I will post a summary of Liam’s Kindergarten year (it is what I sent to the government last year July with identifying information removed).
Liam’s Kindergarten Year
Greetings,
Please be informed that our son, Liam …….., has been promoted from Primary to the First Grade as of June 2009. Following is a brief summary of the subject matter that we covered during the 2008-2009 school year.
Our core curriculum has been an integrated, literature-based social studies program fostering an awareness of world cultures, practices and religions. Participating in many hands on activities, we have studied ancient history through the middle ages at an introductory level. Liam enjoys this literature approach as he enthusiastically reads far beyond grade level.
In the area of science, our focus has been to encourage a basic understanding of the world as our home. We covered such subjects as astronomy, focusing on our solar system, the Earth’s ecosystems, and the human body as a system. We also spent some time this year studying Volcanoes while we learned about the historical events which took place in Pompeii.
Mathematics is an area in which Liam excels, comfortably working in addition, subtraction, and basic multiplication. He enjoys working with manipulatives to figure out problems on his own, but also approaches traditional workbooks with enthusiasm.
Liam is an active member of our local library’s weekly After School Program, and enjoys participating in Sunday School at our church. We spend many hours working on extra-curricular projects such as cooking, crafts and nature walks.
We feel that Liam’s love of learning is his ticket to success, and are very proud of his accomplishments during this first formal year of homeschooling. We are looking forward to a continuing this home learning adventure as Liam moves on to the first grade.
Should further details be required, please feel free to contact me at …….. .

I should be back by the end of this week we are more detailed plan of grade 1. While we have fallen a bit behind “schedule”, Liam has continued to grow as a student and with us schooling year round I have no worries about not covering enough.
awesome Liam… Great job Katrina.
Hmmm, I suppose I should update this…
It all sounds good! We used the Weaver curriculum the first couple years, and I loved it. After that we just carried on, doing lots of unit study stuff and kept really flexible. I really miss homeschooling – my youngest is almost 22 now, the others are 24,26 & 28.
Enjoy your days learning together – loving to learn and being free to follow their interests with your enthusiastic encouragement is the absolute best way to go. You are on a good path
